Joseph Drouhin’s 2007 bargains

As vintages go, 2007 was indeed not lauded as a red wine vintage. Inclement weather lead to mostly lighter, more approachable wines that will be quickly forgotten amongst the top vintages. The whites on the other hand are impressively mineral, rich and provide better balance than the leaner 2008s and fatter 2009s.

But ‘extra lees stirring has created a group of ’07s that is stylistically different from the average ’07 as the Drouhin wines are lusher and fuller‘ says Allen Meadows the Burgundy authority. He further comments on the Chambolle Musigny, ‘notably riper as are the underlying structural elements with an elegant and pure mix of red and blue berries, violets, dried orange peel and a touch of earth that is reflected by the nicely rich, full and mouth coating flavors that manage to retain a fine sense of detail on the sappy and lightly minerally finish. Lovely and recommended at this level’.

These cellar-clearing 2007s will be shipped direct from Maison Joseph Drouhin and will arrive in May 2012. You will unlikely ever see Burgundy prices such as these again; some are a 40% discount on the 2009s, so fill your boots!
