The torrent of Bordeaux 2012 releases we’ve seen this week have included the likes of Lafite Rothschild, Alter Ego de Palmer, Clerc Milon and Cantemerle. But while most châteaux have reduced prices from last year, Right Bank estates Pavie and Angélus have defied the market’s cries for reasonable pricing. Angélus and Pavie both released their grands vins at €180 per bottle this morning – up 30% and 58% respectively. Some merchants and traders were anticipating small increases (following the châteaux’s recent promotion to Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the St-Émilion Classification) but the size of the actual increases took the market by surprise.

If the trade’s response on Twitter is anything to go by, Angélus and Pavie are unlikely to sell through. Some releases, however, do represent a good buying opportunity.
