If you were lucky enough to be in France last weekend, you might have spotted Wine Cellar’s Roland Peens and his teammates sporting Bokke shirts on national French TV. Team South Africa have just returned from Bordeaux where they took on 15 countries at the World Blind Wine Tasting Championships on Saturday. Roland Peens, Chantelle Swanepoel, Gavin Whittaker, Khuselo Mputa and Anton Swarts were served 12 mystery wines from nine countries and had to work together to identify the main variety, the country of origin, the vintage, the region and the wine producer.

Even though it was SA’s first year in the competition (and the team had only been tasting together for a week) the Bokke placed 12th overall, finishing ahead of Ireland, Canada, Argentina and Spain. First prize went to Belgium, with Denmark and the UK finishing in second and third place.

We’ll be posting more photos and inside info on their trip in the next few days, so be sure to check back.
