Every year since 1945, Château Mouton Rothschild has commissioned a world-renowned artist to design the upper part of each new vintage’s label. Following a trio of Chinese, American and British artists, the Bordeaux First Growth has revealed that the 2011 label has been designed by French painter and sculptor Guy de Rougemont, a member of the Academy des Beaux Arts.
The label features brightly coloured undulating lines – Rougemont’s trademark ‘sinuous, random’. According to the estate, this ‘takes us in color through all the stages of the birth of a great wine’.
2011 produced a classically styled Mouton that was well received by the critics. Both Wine Spectator and Robert Parker awarded the 2011 93-96 points, with Parker noting that it was one of his candidates for ‘wine of the vintage’.
Wine Cellar is offering Mouton Rothschild 2011 (and other leading châteaux) En Primeur, for delivery in mid-2014. View our full Bordeaux 2011 price list on Winecellar.co.za.
