In a recent article by the drinks business, the top five places were taken not only by wines from Bordeaux. South Africa’s Reyneke Sauvignon blanc from Stellenbosch, South Africa, came second in this blind tasting of top-end Sauvignons. Wines included were from Australia, New Zealand, Calfiornia, Chile, Italy and South Africa, as well as Pessac-Léognan and St Julien in Bordeaux and one wine from Turkey.
The tasting was held at the London Cru urban winery and comprised of 35 tasters amongst which were wine writers such as Jancis Robinson MW, Anthony Rose, Margaret Rand and Robert Joseph. Each of the 32 wines were first scored out of 20 before the results were submitted.
This is a very stylish Sauvignon Blanc with alluring verbena and honeysuckle notes backed by blanched almond and melon flavour. Focused and lengthly with 16 months in 80% new and 20% used French barrels.
