Rustenberg is a leading producer of iconic, long-ageing wines, like the recently tasted and now-legendary 1982 Rustenberg Red, which is still in great shape after 3 decades! Stellenbosch is home to some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon terroir in the world and very few sites are more special than the Peter Barlow single vineyard. We think this, then, is a release not to miss: a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the best Stellenbosch terroir and the extraordinary 2009 vintage – a vintage that looks to be the finest of a generation. This wine is set to last for decades to come. Simply put, it’s a future legend.

Remarkably, this much-lauded wine is less than R300 a bottle. It garnered a 5-star rating in the 2014 Christian Eedes Cabernet Sauvignon Report, and it won the trophy for Best Cabernet Sauvignon and the International Judges Trophy at the 2015 Old Mutual Trophy Show.

This is a benchmark South African Cabernet Sauvignon and what impresses most is the refined tannins; it oozes class with layers of complexity that will continue to evolve for many years. A truly incredible wine for special occasions.

Tasting notes

Rustenberg Peter Barlow 2009
‘Very classy as you might expect of this label in what was generally considered a great vintage. The nose shows red and black berries plus attractive oak-derived vanilla and spice. Real depth of fruit on the palate but there’s no shortage of freshness while the tannins are suitably firm. Lovely salty edge to the finish.’ Christian Eedes Cabernet Sauvignon Report 2014, Winemag.co.za
