Wine Cellar has just landed a privileged allocation of Joseph Drouhin, Henri Boillot and Hudelot-Noëllat from hallowed Burgundy. The whites in 2014 are just incredible, with laser-like acidity, density and fine structure. Decanter awards the vintage 5 stars. The reds are described as ‘classic’ by Stephan Brook and are awarded 4 stars. Burgundy has been unfortunate with almost a decade of small vintages, a problem compounded by increasing global demand for their fine wines.
While wines from the famous villages of the Côte d’Or (‘Slope of Gold’) continue to rise in price, there is still good value to be found. In particular, we offer a delicious and yet classy Mâcon from Joseph Drouhin at a giveaway price.
‘The 2014 Mâcon-Bussières Les Clos represents 75% of the lieu-dit, as Drouhin purchases from four of its five growers. It has good fruit intensity on the nose: touches of yellow flowers infusing the citrus fruit. The palate is crisp and fresh with lemon zest, orange peel and apricot with a crisp, taut finish. This is very fine, a delicious Mâcon. Drink to 2022.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 90 points
Notes on the vintage:
‘As expected, it was the white 2014s that really shone and you don’t need to splash out on the big names to obtain some really lovely wines. I was impressed by the Village Cru quality.’ – Neal Martin on the Drouhin 2014s
‘Charles has overseen some impressive wines in 2014… the mid-range is full of wines worthy of your attention.’ – Neal Martin on the Hudelot-Noëllat 2014s
‘Henri Boillot continues to make stunning wines from his négociant operation and he has arguably become the finest pure négoce specializing in white burgundy today.’ – Allen Meadows
