Best known for his near-cult Rall White, Donovan Rall is constantly experimenting and, for the first time, we are excited to be able to bring you his stellar 2016 Grenache Blanc as part of his latest releases. ‘Effortless,’ says Christian Eedes, giving it a 95-point score. At only 12.5% alc., it is mostly raised in concrete eggs, 20% skin fermented, which adds a wonderful texture to this light, vibrant and perfectly pitched wine. We have very limited quantities available.
Although 2016 was a difficult vintage, it only served to inspire Donovan to make even better wines. This is essentially a winemaker’s vintage which is most evident in the stunning 2016 Rall White – Neal Martin’s pick from the Rall releases and my standout. It has the same wonderful, layered complexity as previous vintages and, like in the past, will need another year in the bottle to show off its best. This is an exceptional wine, highly sought-after and bound to sell out in a flash.
The Rall Red 2015 is his finest red yet. The latest release benefits greatly from a new and low-yielding Syrah vineyard grown on schist soils. The tiny berries bring fruit and structural power without the fruit becoming flabby. Fresh and bright on the nose but wonderfully reticent, followed by grippy and coated tannins, it is a much more delineated and serious offering.
Due to huge demand these wines are very limited.
