The just-released Winemag Merlot Report 2017 rated the 2015 Org de Rac 92 points. Tasted blind, it was the highest score awarded out of the 67 wines, outperforming top Stellenbosch, Constantia and Elgin wines! Merlot is taken very seriously at Org de Rac with a lot of attention paid to vineyard health and clonal selections. All this effort is finally paying off with the 2015 Org de Rac Merlot. It is grown and produced organically on mostly south-facing vineyards situated in the Swartland, just outside Piketberg.

The 2015 over-delivers in spades! This is a once-off special price to introduce you to a wine that will certainly demand a higher price in the future. We are so eager for you to taste this wine that we are offering free delivery on all orders of 6 bottles or more.

Merlot is one of the most popular varieties in SA, yet it’s one of the most difficult to produce. Often criticised for either being over-ripe or having under-ripe tannins, it is extremely sensitive to site, soil and vintage conditions. The 2015 Org de Rac Merlot is spot on and is a full-flavoured, delicious everyday wine with good fruit concentration, oak integration and a medium finish. It’s an absolute bargain and punches well above its price range. Drink now to 2023.

Tasting notes:

Org de Rac, Merlot 2015 – R 75
Matured for 13 months in French oak, 100% new. Initially shy on the nose but opens up to reveal red and black berries, some olive, fresh herbs plus spice and toasty oak. Sweet, rich and properly ripe on the palate – good depth and breadth of fruit plus bright acidity before a savoury finish. – Christian Eedes, 92/100
