South African winemaker Justin Corrans is bringing home a gold medal after the recent Ningxia Winemakers Challenge award ceremony.
The 2-year project paired 48 winemakers from all over the globe with local wineries in Ningxia, China. The selected winemakers were given 3ha of the estate’s vineyards and had to harvest, ferment and produce a wine. Read more about the project.
At the end of August 2017, the wines were tasted and judged by the NWC’s 10-member panel in Beijing. SA’s Justin Corrans, who was paired with the Chinese label Lanxuan, was awarded a gold medal and his wine was named as the judges’ ‘overall pick’. According to this article, Justin and the 4 other gold medal winners received $15,000 in prize money.
