Abrie Beeslaar, the head winemaker at Kanonkop Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, has been crowned International Winemaker of the Year for the 3rd time. He previously won the title in 2008 and 2015. The award was presented by at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) where Kanonkop was also named the South African Producer of the Year.
The awards didn’t stop there! The Black Label Pinotage 2013 also won the trophy for the Best Pinotage; capping off a truly spectacular night for Abrie and his team. Abrie noted that his success wouldn’t have been possible without the help of his whole team it the Kanonkop cellar and vineyards as well as the people who helped him gain international attention.
The IWSC is the world’s leading wine and spirits competition and more than 5,500 products are entered from some 50 countries spread throughout the world. This is a prestigious award and goes to show that South African wines can compete with and trump wines from anywhere in the world.
