For exceptional value, look no further than the FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 award winner Trizanne TSW Sauvignon Blanc 2017. It shows a wonderful complexity and the saline finish that is so typical of Elim.
From possibly the best-known Sauvignon Blanc region in SA, we have the particularly accomplished Constantia Glen Sauvignon Blanc 2017 which recently received a Platter’s 5-star. With a touch of Sémillon, it is a brilliant example of how layered Sauvignon Blanc can be.
Our third choice is the wild-ferment Nitída Wild Child 2017 which comes from the heartland of Sauvignon Blanc, Durbanville. Picking the grapes at varying levels of ripeness and partial oaking has added gravitas to the wine as well as a softer acidity, more expressive white stone fruit and a fine, lingering finish.
Trizanne Signature Wines, TSW Sauvignon Blanc 2017 – R 110
Trizanne Barnard has done something quite special with her Elim Sauvignon Blanc 2017, this Elim wine [is] showing particular refinement and composure. The nose shows subtle notes of lime, pear, white peach and blackcurrant while the palate is concentrated but not weighty – lovely fruit purity, coated acidity and a gently savoury finish. Very more-ish and good quality relative to price given an approximate retail price of R 110 a bottle. – Christian Eedes, 92/100
Constantia Glen, Sauvignon Blanc 2017 – R 150
The Sauvignon Blanc 2017 offers refined fruit focus and lovely tensile freshness. Racy lime, starfruit, gooseberry and some white pepper create a bright impression. Nitída, Wild Child 2017 – R 150
Notes on the 2016 vintage: Wild refers to natural fermentation rather than any delinquency on the part of winemaker Daniel Keulder. This is an appealing, low key Sauvignon Blanc with very gentle wooding, notes of white flowers and citrus and a stony, flinty finish. 2017-2020. – Tim Atkin MW, 90/100
