‘I reiterate my claim that no country, no wine region has been as dynamic, progressive or indeed, as exciting as South Africa.’
– Neal Martin, South Africa Report 2018
Neal Martin is one of the most respected, and most fastidious, international wine critics. Previously at Wine Advocate, Neal is now part of the top team at Vinous and has just published his 2018 South Africa Report! Neal rated over 920 of SA’s very best wines but only 34 received scores of 94 and above. Sadly, most of these amazing wines, which we have highlighted before, are now sold out.
We have secured small parcels of some of the top-rated wines, including 2 high-scorers that offer ridiculous value. Firstly, the wonderful Swartland TSW Syrah 2016 from Trizanne Barnard (93/100) and then the delicious False Bay Slow Chenin Blanc 2017 (91/100). These are the wines to stock up on!
Only 14 wines, including 5 reds and 9 whites, scored 95 or higher with the Sadie Family Mev. Kirsten 2017 getting the only 97-point score.
‘The numbers of producers who make very good to quite astonishing wines in South Africa has never been greater. Numerous times I experienced the adrenalin rush of chancing upon a new grower creating thrilling wine or met a trustworthy, skilled winemaker offering yet another portfolio that consolidated their reputation.’ – Neal Martin, South Africa Report 2018
