A recent blind tasting that pit Stellenbosch 2015s against 2015 Bordeaux saw the Le Riche Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 score a whopping 96 points from Christian Eedes, editor of Winemag.co.za. Once again, this underlines the stature of the 2015 vintage. This is a regal, poised release that shimmers with class. Already offered as part of our Stellenbosch EP 2015 and investment offerings, we have received a small additional allocation to offer our readers. Offering at least two decades of maturation, this is the last chance for collectors.

Christo and his sister Yvonne have taken over the reins from their dad Etienne le Riche, famous for the legendary Rustenberg Cabernets, and the legacy continues with this fine release. The Le Riche Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is usually shy on release and needs time to unfurl; never more so than for this 2015. It abounds with quiet energy and restrained power that follow on to a classy, persistent finish.

Tasting notes:

Le Riche, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
From Raithby and Firgrove sites, with longer oak ageing (2 years, 67% new) than standard version. Classic Cab in fine 2015 vintage shows pure elegance, more refinement than 2014. Fine-grained tannins, cool core of cassis fruit. Inherent balance, poise, to evolve well. – Platter’s Guide 2019, 5* (95/100)

The Le Riches make some of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in Stellenbosch, and this stellar 2015 is no exception. Still closed right now, as you’d expect from such a vintage, this has layers of mocha oak, some green herbs, bright acidity and a vigorous core of dark fruit. One for the cellar. Drink: 2020-2030. – Tim Atkin MW, 94/100
