Cellar Master at Gabriëlskloof since 2014, Peter-Allan Finlayson has quietly been reshaping the Gabriëlskloof aesthetic. Possibly surpassing the great 2015 vintage, 2017 sees the release of a trio of Gabriëlskloof wines set to redefine the benchmarks in Botriver, including one of the finest Cabernet Francs in SA and a pair of highly-rated, terroir-specific Syrahs.
This exclusive pre-release of the Landscape Series reds is led by the stellar 2017 Gabriëlskloof Cabernet Franc and is joined by 2 terroir-specific Syrahs which have shot right to the very top echelon of SA Syrah; competing head-to-head with the very best from Stellenbosch and Swartland.
The 2017 Gabriëlskloof Syrah on Sandstone is a dead ringer for Northern Rhône Syrah – elegant and refined with a savoury thread. On the other hand, the 2017 Gabriëlskloof Syrah on Shale offers denser fruit, restrained power and an elegant, yet grippy, lingering finish. These are impressive releases that add serious impetus to Botriver’s Syrah pedigree.
