About

Welcome to Wine Cellar+, the place for all the extra bits and pieces that happen at Wine Cellar. This is where you can find out about new arrivals in the cellar, check out upcoming tastings, and see the videos that the Wine Cellar team post. It’s also a great place to learn about fine wine. We want to hear about the fine wines you are drinking and those that you want to drink, so get chatting in the comments sections.

Behind the scenes

Roland Peens

Roland’s the big boss when it comes to Wine Cellar and he focuses on the international side of things. Studying economics a the University of Stellenbosch meant that wine surrounded him.  He gave in to its lures and as soon as he had finished his degree, he found his way into the industry.

Roland worked in wine marketing, retail, exports and as a sommelier before he found his way to Wine Cellar – South Africa’s foremost importer of fine wines. He has been the manager here since 2005 and is also a shareholder.

You will find Roland at most of South Africa’s top wine events, tasting, learning, and exploring the world of wine, forever expanding his palate. He has fantastic insight into the wine world both local and foreign. Studying for a Master of Wine qualification for five years has helped, and we’re sure one day we’ll see the big MW after his name.

When he isn’t popping corks you’ll find Roland on a bike going up and down the many Cape mountains.

Wine Cellar

This is a site tagged on to the main site where all the serious business goes on. You can check that out here.

Here’s a little info about the business:

Wine Cellar started trading in December 2000 as an importer of fine wine, based in Observatory, Cape Town. Bordeaux is our specialty although we focus on fine wines from Burgundy, the Rhône and elsewhere in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Germany. We offer fine local wines that push the boundaries and we are able to source any local wine at competitive prices.

Other services we offer: Cellaring, a brokerage service, fine wine tastings and a shipping service from London City Bond to Cape Town in refrigerated containers.
