Will Lyons of the Wall Street Journal is the latest commentator to praise the Cape’s new breed of young, talented winemakers. Lyons met Klein Constantia’s 29-year-old winemaker, Matthew Day, at a tasting in London this week and was impressed with his range of Sauvignon Blancs. In particular, he singles out Klein Constantia’s Metis Sauvignon Blanc – inspired by Sancerre producer Pascal Jolivet. The debut 2013 was made from one of the highest blocks in the vineyard with minimal sulphur addition, natural yeasts and in an oxidative style, and it shows subtle stone fruit and citrus notes that follow to a remarkable focused and textured palate. This wine is a must for serious white wine connoisseurs.
