What a wine! The Keet First Verse 2021 is pitch perfect. With double-96 points from Platter’s Guide and Tim Atkin, the 2021 is elegant with immense power, deep fruit and fine tannins. It lingers for a solid minute and offers a purely pleasurable experience demanding your attention from the get-go.

While it is drinking superbly now, this wine is going to age for the next 10 years plus. With predominantly Cabernet Franc, accompanied by Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot, Chris compares the blending of these components to the harmony of the orchestra building up to a crescendo and we think he nailed it.

Tasting Notes:
‘Exceptional Cape Bordeaux from prime Stellenbosch sites. Near-equal cab franc & cab, more malbec than merlot & petit verdot vs just a dab in 2020; usual 18 months in oak, 15% new. Lithe, despite 14.5% alc, thanks to masterly composition of bright fruit, enlivening acid & fine, shapely tannins, all promising a stellar future.’ – Platter’s Guide 5* (96/100)
‘Chris Keet only makes one wine under his own name, but what a wine it is, consistently among the best Bordeaux style blends in the Cape. Made in a “peach” of a vintage in 2021, this marries Cabernet Franc, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec and 6% Merlot. Sourced from eight different Stellenbosch sites, this has symphonic complexity, with alluring cut grass and graphite aromas, sculpted tannins and layers of mint, bramble and blackcurrant framed by scented oak. 2026-40’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2024, 96/100
