Wolf & Woman: ‘The Most Exciting of the So-Called New Wave Movement’

If you’re looking for a sign to drink Pinotage again, it doesn’t get better than this. Jolandie Fouché of Wolf & Woman is one of South Africa’s most celebrated Young Guns™, and her 2024 release marks a new era of great Pinotage.

The Wolf & Woman Pinotage 2024 is a serious wine from the Swartland that’s bright, perfumed, and crunchy yet focused, with Nebbiolo-like tannins and a bone-dry, energetic finish. This is still a small-batch production, and very little is available.

Not only does Jolandie make great Pinotage, but her Grenache Blanc, Chenin and Syrah are all reflections of her incredible talent and dedication to the Swartland.

Using grapes from four vineyards, her stunning 2024 Chenin Blanc is poised, refreshing, and focused. It shows a concentration of florals that’s typical of granitic soils – think jasmine stem and orange blossoms – followed by leesy complexity and a citrus lift.

Her 2024 Grenache Blanc is one of our favourite expressions of the variety, with 50% Piekenierskloof and 50% Voor Paardeberg fruit. It’s more restrained than previous years, with delicate white florals, citrus pith and a greengage element that we love. This is bound to age remarkably well.

The 2024 Wolf & Woman Syrah is a charming wine with notes of olive brine, deep cherry, black jacks and great spice. It’s so pleasurable and pretty much everything you want in a Swartland Syrah, but with the structure to age for a decade. Drink from 2026.
