They have been in pursuit of perfection from the very beginning, and with the 2021 Fusion V, they come remarkably close.✨This is the Fusion V at its most refined, a reminder of why this wine became a benchmark in the first place. 2021 is one of the Cape’s greatest vintages, and this release is perfectly dialled in. Tim Atkin agrees, awarding it 96 points and calling it ‘one of the best ever releases of Fusion V’.Since 2019, there’s been a clear shift in style. Picking is earlier, the wines are fresher, with a move towards detail over power. Led by Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by 17% Merlot, 13% Malbec, 12% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2021 feels luxurious yet built for the long haul.We suggest enjoying it now, or cellaring for a decade to see its full potential. ‘Gigondas delivers some of the best bang for my bu ‘Gigondas delivers some of the best bang for my buck in cellar worthy red wines from France today.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous 🌟Santa Duc’s high-altitude Grenache-based blends from the Southern Rhône are world-class, and we back them as one of the region’s best domaines. The Santa Duc Gigondas Aux Lieux Dits 2022 is made from eight special ‘lieux dit’ sites and four different varieties – Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault, with 80% whole bunches. Black cherries and violets introduce this lively, refined red with a deep-fruited core and powerful tannins. As for their Châteauneufs, ‘It will hurt some feelings to say an outsider is producing some of the most compelling examples of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but keep in mind these are generally tiny-production gems and not easy to track down,’ says Joe Czerwinski of the Wine Advocate. The average vine age is 40-75 years and all of Santa Duc’s vines and wines are organic and biodynamically certified, a process Yves Gras began back in the eighties. Yves’ tireless work put Domaine Santa Duc and Gigondas on the map after he took over in 1985. His son Benjamin took the helm in 2017, ‘pushing quality even higher’ (Vinous).Click the link in our bio to view the wines.#gigondas #france #redwine

Excellence and sustainability lie at the core of what they do, and their Signature wines have become benchmarks since the inaugural 2008 vintage. ‘This is who we are as a Swartland producer, our most important wines,’ enthuses Chris.🌟Their Old Vines White 2025 is the Swartland in a bottle. Showing waxy stone fruit, hallmark honeycomb and poised citrus, it continues to set the standard for white blends in South Africa. Wines like these offer impressive intensity, persistence and clarity of fruit. The 2025 is a terrific partner for food and will do all the work for maximum enjoyment when opened around a table with friends and family.Syrah is one of the most important varieties in the country. In the Swartland, it really captures the essence of the region and Mullineux's expression has pulled in 95+ points year after year. The 2023 Syrah is comforting and has a subtlety about it, with notes of tapenade and dark cherry leading to powdery, velvety tannins. We were lucky enough to secure a small allocation of the increasingly rare and much-lauded Straw Wine. The 2025 is bright with notes of dried apricot. It’s salty, pithy and properly delicious – lay it down for a year or two and then enjoy it with an almond tart, or on its own.#swartland #syrah #whitewine

Elgin produces world-class Chardonnay, and Moya Me Elgin produces world-class Chardonnay, and Moya Meaker's 2024 offers the best quality-to-price ratio from this benchmark region.🌟The vineyards were planted as recently as 2021, yet it’s remarkably complex. This is what happens when vines are planted in the right place. ‘The palate is almost ethereal in its delicacy – pure fruit and brisk acidity before a pithy finish. Poised, vivid, taut,’ says Christian Eedes, scoring it 94 points.Established in 2010 by Canadian-born David Curl, the former owner of Château Gaby in Bordeaux, Moya Meaker lies in an amphitheatre formed by surrounding mountains. At 320m altitude, the vines are exposed to large diurnal shifts, allowing winemaker Jean Smit to craft a Chardonnay with bright acidity and plush fruit density. Their parcel of ancient Bokkeveld shale soils offers the perfect terroir for this elusive Burgundian variety.Click the link in our bio to view their full range of wines.#elgin #chardonnay #southafricanwine

Everyone wants to be a member, but only the 52 best growers make the cut. For the 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo, their ‘fantastic’ (Kerin O’Keefe) entry-level wine, all the fruit comes from Barbaresco-designated vineyards, which makes it ‘a true rarity’, says Antonio Galloni of Vinous.🌟This is the wine that drew many of our team into more serious wine buying and cellaring. We’ve had incredible decade-old bottles of the Langhe Nebbiolo. The quality is more than you can ever dream of at this price, and the enjoyment factor is through the roof.Don’t be fooled by its light red colour and delicate aromatics. This Nebbiolo shows fragrant notes of rose, violet, dried herb and wild red berry and the medium-bodied palate is intense, spicy and chalky, laced with all the subtleties of its northern Italian terroir. Expect lots of energy and delicacy on the finish. We cannot recommend this wine and producer highly enough.Click the link in our bio to view the wine.#nebbiolo #italianwine #piedmont

None do it better than Germany’s Mosel region, and among ‘the most famous of these is Clemens Busch in Punderich’ (James Suckling).🌟From vines up to 60 years old, grown on incredibly steep, slaty slopes along the river, comes one of the smartest buys of the year – Clemens Busch’s 2023 Riesling Trocken. ‘This excellent entry-level dry riesling combines the Mosel virtues of lightness and intensity,’ writes James Suckling. You’ll find green apple, mint, dill, lemon blossom and slate on the nose. The nervy, racy palate is perfectly rounded out by a delicate leesy character, followed by a slightly salty, lemony finish. It’s summer, purity and precision in a glass! At only 10.5% alcohol, you can enjoy bucketloads of this.Rita and Clemens Busch are the ‘absolute pioneers’ (Vinous) of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the Mosel. Their family has been producing wine in the region for over 200 years and continues to be a close-knit operation, with their son joining the estate in 2011. Last year saw the sad passing of Wine Cellar co-fo Last year saw the sad passing of Wine Cellar co-founder David Brice – a much-loved collector, connoisseur and friend. An engineer, David travelled widely and was always in search of special bottles. Many of us will fondly remember the private dinners he hosted, generously sharing his finds from around the world. When arriving at Wine Cellar over lunchtime, David’s contagious passion showed in his insistence that there should always be something open. If not, we weren’t taking wine seriously enough! And so he helped instil the deep wine culture that still defines Wine Cellar today. In his memory, Strauss & Co is honoured to offer a selection of wines from David’s private cellar, with a particular focus on the Rhône Valley – one of his favourite regions. He collected everything from excellent easy-drinking reds and whites to long-term treasures, with wines from Vaucluse to Vacqueyras and Cornas to Côte-Rôtie. Among the auction highlights is his impressive collection of Châteauneuf-du-Pape from standout vintages such as 2010 and 2007. The cellar also features local Syrahs and Rhône-style wines from the likes of Porseleinberg, Mullineux and Leeuwenkuil. All international wines were imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar. The auction offers access to producers seldom seen in South Africa, and an opportunity to acquire bottles from a thoughtfully assembled, personal collection.Click the link in our bio to view the auction.#wineauction #winecollection #rhonevalley

It’s ‘superbly judged’, says Christian Eedes, ‘with equal measures of depth and breadth, energy and texture’. Boekenhoutskloof has been at the helm of SA fine wine for almost two decades. The classiest and most historic of addresses in Al The classiest and most historic of addresses in Alba belongs to Pio Cesare, with their cellars built into the town's 2000-year-old Roman walls.Their Ornato and Mosconi crus are situated in the Serralunga valley, which creates powerful, long-lived Barolos. The advantage of the 2020 vintage is that you get all the layers and nuance from these impressive Nebbiolo sites, but with a mid-weight body and smooth approachability. This means you can try a bottle now and confidently cellar the others until 2050.🌟The Ornato cru, in the Serralunga d'Alba sub-region, has been in the family since 1985 and sits at an altitude of 370m. Densely textured and dark fruited with a violet top note, it delivers great potency and mineral prowess. The prestigious Mosconi was first produced in 2015 and comes from the sub-region of Monforte d'Alba at 380m altitude, right next to Serralunga. Here you'll find more red than black fruit, with plenty of spice, blue flowers and dried herbs on the nose. The palate is smoother and silkier than the Ornato, which is all about structure. Very long, very balanced, this Barolo has 'an especially elegant' personality, says the Wine Advocate.Click the link in our bio to view the wines.#barolo #italianwine #redwine
Red Rioja is a brilliant bet for your next braai. Red Rioja is a brilliant bet for your next braai. The juicy black fruit, earthiness, acidity and elegant but present tannins pair so well with charred meats and vegetables. And today we’re happy to offer icon López de Heredia’s 2014 Bosconia Reserva to fire up your new year.🌟Expect cassis, cherry, cola, tobacco, spice and smoke on the nose followed by a layered, medium-bodied palate and super long finish. As a recent release, this wine is fresh and young for its age, yet it promises a long life ahead (up to 2044 if you believe the critics). The Bosconia vineyard (named El Bosque for the forest at the foot of the Cantabria mountains) is a patchwork of very old vines of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo (Carignan). It’s aged for 5 years in barrel and a further 5-6 years in bottle before release. Reservas and Gran Reservas are made from this site.If you only want to buy from one more producer this year, buy López de Heredia. Their wines are mystical, ethereal and downright delicious. Their focus is on native Penedès varieties, expressed with purity and precision. From their latest arrivals come three wines that deserve a spot on every table this summer.✨The Xarel·lo 2024 is stupendous! It’s a great representation of the region’s signature white variety, made from vines up to 85 years old and the consistent bestseller in the range. The intricacy and intensity here are captivating. A chalky Chardonnay-like texture and crushed rock minerality frame poised, savoury fruit and freshness reminiscent of Chenin, enhanced by a touch of Mediterranean herbs and nuttiness. The Garnatxa Blanca 2024 is bright and alluring, showing honeysuckle, grapefruit, ripe pear skin and white peach. A zesty, silky finish adds to the moreish nature of the wine. The beautiful pale-pink La Rosa 2024 is Provençale in style. It’s a long, ‘distinctive and characterful’ (Vinous) blend of the red grape Sumoll and the local white grape Xarel·lo.The Raventós family are leading viticulturists in the region, with a vine-growing history stretching back to 1497.
