On the 19th and 20th of October, the Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective is hosting a preview tasting of the 2017 Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignons at Lanzerac. The walk-around tasting will feature 2017 Cabernets from 30 esteemed Stellenbosch estates. Guests will be able to sample all the wines and enjoy a selection of paired canapés.
Two masterclass tastings will be on offer – the Stellenbosch Heritage (R650 pp) and International Icon tastings (R1,250 pp). The Heritage presentation will showcase older-vintage Stellenbosch Cabernets as well as some younger examples. The International Icon masterclass will be presented by a top-rated international personality from a well-known Cabernet-producing estate.
Christian Eedes, Roland Peens and James Pietersen were invited to a en-primeur tasting of 25 of the wines in September. ‘We tasted blind,’ says Christian, ‘ratings done according to the 100-point system, wines accorded a three-point spread of points given that they are unfinished.’ View the panel’s ratings.
‘On the whole, 2017 looks like it was a very good vintage for Cabernet Sauvignon from this famed district and could be even better than much-acclaimed 2015 although it is too early to make this judgement with any real conviction.
