‘The Drouhin family remains committed to the ideal of elegance, and the 2022 vintage has played into their hands in that respect, producing a crop of sensual, charming wines that come warmly recommended.’ (Wine Advocate)
A pure and aromatic expression of the most northerly region of Burgundy, the Joseph Drouhin Chablis Vaudon 2022 shows notes of grapefruit, Persian lime, oyster shell and white florals. It remains one of the best value Burgundies at only R495 per bottle. Don’t miss their other Chablis from Grand Cru sites!
12 months ageing in a small percentage of new oak and vineyards on the top of a hill overlooking the city of Beaune create the Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Blanc 2022. For under R1 000, this wine speaks to the vintage and their homeground around Beaune. ‘Medium-bodied, ample and lively, it’s a charming white evocative of pear, citrus oil and toasted nuts.’ (Wine Advocate)
From one of the leading premier crus in Beaune, the Joseph Drouhin Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru 2022 will age wonderfully in bottle, the palate is ‘extraordinarily intense’ (Jasper Moris MW) while having ‘a fine definition and the best acidity of the whites I tasted’ (Neal Martin). Always a fan favourite, don’t miss out.

Apart from the brilliant Joseph Drouhin Côte de Nuits-Villages 2022 recently on offer, here are a few other reds to consider. A new addition is the Santenay 1er Cru Beaurepaire 2022. This remains one of the great value appellations in the Côte d’Or, only R800 for this 1er cru!, and with its higher elevations and cool climate, produces finessed and elegant wines.
With ‘supple tannins and a suave, charming profile’, (Wine Advocate) the Joseph Drouhin Vosne-Romanée 2022 displays succulent red cherries, florals, a silky texture and along with Chambolle-Musigny are two of my favourite appellations. Drouhin does them particularly well and even their village levels, age extremely well.
The Joseph Drouhin Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru is crafted from a vineyard acquired by the domaine in the 1920s and the 2022 ‘is shaping up beautifully, revealing aromas of sweet cherries, cassis, licorice and spices deftly framed by toasty new oak.’ (WA) ‘Give this Clos des Mouches three or four years in bottle’, advises Neal Martin.
This historic estate was founded in 1880 by 22-year-old Joseph Drouhin and today it is run by fourth-generation Véronique Drouhin. With 100 hectares of biodynamically and organically farmed vineyards, Joseph Drouhin wines brilliantly showcase some of Burgundy’s finest sites, such as Clos des Mouches, and more.
