Burgundy On A Budget? Yes, It Still Exists!

Burgundy bewitches. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Burgundy are behind some of the most expensive and collectible wines in the world. Whilst it might feel like their price rise is never-ending, Wine Cellar has your back with incredible value wines, sourced from the lesser-known, low-profile, regional appellations and new generations.

Try our Burgundy on a Budget Blanc or Rouge cases, or order single bottles of your favourites. You won’t regret it.

A display of six wine bottles with prices ranging from R 375 to R 999, featuring notable brands and types, with a "Order Now" prompt.

Le Blanc 6-bottle case features the best introduction-Burgundy around, Joseph Drouhin Mâcon-Bussières Les Clos 2022. The Daniel Dampt Chablis 2023 is ‘one of the better examples of this vintage’ (Neal Martin), and don’t miss Dominique Lafon’s personal project, Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Villages 2023. For a wine fit for royalty, look to Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Les Sétilles 2021, while the Henri Boillot Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022 has ‘excellent density’ – it’s ‘rich, with an electric energy at the back’ (Jasper Morris). We finish strong with the Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Blanc 2022 – a blend of fruit from young Clos des Mouches vines and the Montagne de Beaune.

Three wine bottles displayed: HB Bourgogne (R680), Joseph Drouhin Santenay (R800), and Olivier Leflaive (R895). "Order Now" highlighted.

For lovers of the heartbreak grape, our Le Rouge 3-pack includes Henri Boillot Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2022‘an absolute delight, bursting with red purplish fruit, spice, rose petal and lavender’ (Antonio Galloni). Joseph Drouhin Santenay Beaurepaire 1er Cru 2022 is a new addition from steep slopes close to Chassagne-Montrachet, and from vines grown below the Corton Grand Cru site comes the Olivier Leflaive Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Fichots 2021 – a dark-fruited yet fresh and fine take on Pinot Noir from this illustrious vineyard.

Tasting Notes:

Daniel Dampt Chablis 2023

‘Here too there is a touch of petrol character to the fresh and bright nose of quinine, oyster shell and lemon confit. The mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is rich to the point of opulence while offering better volume and density on the lightly stony, clean and moderately dry finale. This would also benefit from having better depth but here there’s a good chance it will have time to develop before it’s mature.’Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 88/100

Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Villages 2023

‘In tank for fining and filtering to bottle in mid-May. Lemon yellow with a green tint. Fresh fruit aromatics, apples in particular. Then fleshier on the palate, lowish but adequate acidity. Juicy and attractive, to drink early.’Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy, 87-89/100

Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Les Sétilles 2021

‘An equally fresh if less spicy nose freely offers up its aromas of apple, pear, white flower and a touch of orange peel. The mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is also quite lovely while the lingering, balanced and equally dry finale is sufficiently tightly wound to repay a few years of keeping. This too is very good for its level.’Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 87/100

Henri Boillot Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022

‘Domaine fruit and some purchased from St Romain, 5 barrels out of 50. Mid lemon yellow, with grapey yellow fruit on the nose. Excellent density, still quite rich and ripe in fruit style, but with an electric energy at the back.’Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy, 88-90/100

Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Blanc 2022

‘A bit of real Côte d’Or savour here. Precise rather than opulent but well balanced. Needs a little more time.’Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com, 16/20

Henri Boillot Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2022

‘The 2022 Bourgogne is bursting with red purplish fruit, spice, rose petal and lavender. This mid-weight, fruity Bourgogne is an absolute delight. Enjoy it over the next few years. It’s a great introduction to this range.’Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 88-90/100

Olivier Leflaive Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Fichots 2021 ‘Laced with black cherry and blackberry fruit, plus earth and stony mineral flavors, this dark red offers some density, showing a touch of bitterness on the finish.’Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 89/100
