We’ve just tasted the 2025 Capitoline Wolf from Alex McFarlane and there’s no doubt that this absolutely delicious release will be one of our go-to wines this spring. If you love Chenin-Semillon blends (think Cartology), this small-batch white demands your attention – punching well above its weight at R190.
The 2025 is fine, detailed and bright with a long, satisfying finish. Ancient Crouchen Blanc has been added to the blend, and a touch of skin contact on the Semillon brings texture and weight to the mid-palate.

Alex McFarlane has a love for horses, vineyards and people (most of the time). Her philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for old vines and the growers who tend them, and she honours South Africa in everything she does. Her wines are elegant, honest and properly moreish. Tasting Notes:
McFarlane Wines Capitoline Wolf White 2025
‘The nose has perfumed notes of fresh quince and white flower followed by ripe yellow fruit. A crunchy green spice comes through later on the nose. The entry has a pleasing bitterness on the palate followed by fleshy yellow fruit with layers of warm spiced ginger biscuit. There is bright acidity underpinning the fleshy fruit making your mouth water. This wine will pair beautifully with a guanciale carbonarra or even a lightly toasted hot cross bun, lashings of butter and a sliver of sharp cheddar.’ – Winemaker
