‘Founded almost a century ago, Domaine Huet is arguably Vouvray’s most famous name’ (Vinous) and this Pétillant is a ‘a Loire classic’ (Jancis Robinson).
The Vouvray Pétillant from Domaine Huet, is a traditional method sparkling wine and ‘offers not just a relative bargain, but is one of the true unsung beauties of fizz’, commented Richard Hemming MW while tasting some older vintages from this estate. The 2019 vintage in the Loire was the sixth in a string of excellent vintages that led to premium grapes with great acidity and flavour concentration. And for Huet specifically, Wine Advocate wrote that this was ‘another terrific vintage for the iconic Vouvray domain.

The Huet Vouvray Pétillant 2019 is 100% Chenin Blanc, kept on the lees for three years, and offers a quality-to-price ratio that is hard to find in the world of sparkling wine. It is crisp and mineral with a lovely bouquet of white florals, fresh apple, and honey-coated almond complimented by a fine, soft mousse on the palate. A terrific bottle to keep on hand for any occasion and a chance to experience how versatile and premium Loire Chenin is, this is a wine you can’t miss out on.
Tasting Notes:
‘The 2019 Brut Vouvray Pétillant is a finely tuned, subtly sparkling wine with a supple, rounded, airy expression. It’s light on its feet with a fine fresh fruit character and delicate, lees-derived almond flavor. A refined tow of acidity flows through on the finish. 2024-2035’ – Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, 90/100
‘A Loire classic. Let’s see what the new owners have done with it…Toasty nose. Really mouth-filling and just slightly frothy rather than gently sparkling but pretty good. Though not up to my memories of really mature examples from the Huet family. 2024-2028’ – Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20
