This one is for the Pinot lovers, the wine students and the new connoisseurs. We pride ourselves on finding great wines that fly under the radar, and this cracking 2023 Pinot from Yardstick is our discovery of the year so far.
It’s a serious Pinot that massively over-delivers at R260, offering bright red and black fruit alongside enticing aromatics of hibiscus, spice and freshly tilled earth. The palate is long with savoury nuances and chalky tannins.

From the Stellenbosch Mountains, the 2023 is made from mature vines grown on ancient, rocky river terraces. It’s already drinking beautifully, but if you prefer something more mature, pop a case in the cellar for the next five years (at least) – it will be worth the wait.
Adam Mason has been crafting wines for his Yardstick brand for almost two decades. What started as a collaborative journey with chef and restaurateur Peter Templehoff quickly became a project of passion and excellence.
