Chablis: ‘Pure heaven for Chardonnay lovers’ – Wine Enthusiast

Prized for its cool-climate, mineral expressions of Chardonnay, Chablis offers some of the finest value white Burgundy. The 2023 vintage produced ‘delicious, forward’ wines with ‘ready-to-drink charm’ – it’s ‘eminently worth stocking up on’, says Decanter.

Olivier Leflaive’s Chablis Les Deux Rives 2023 is a beautiful wine and a benchmark for the region. A blend of 7 plots on both sides of the Serein River, it sees a combination of old oak and stainless steel, yielding a crystalline Chardonnay with classic Chablis flintiness. The 2023 shows concentrated, crunchy white fruit and florals, balanced by zesty acidity and a refined chalky texture.

The Leflaive family has been rooted in Puligny-Montrachet since 1717. Olivier was a general manager at Domaine Leflaive, his uncle’s winery, until 1994 but has been making wine under his own label since 1984.

At our Burgundy dinner with Neal Martin last year, Neal explained that Olivier Leflaive’s wines do supremely well at the annual Burgundy blind tastings, often outscoring more famous names. They’ve carved out an enviable reputation and a loyal following worldwide.

Olivier’s Les Deux Rives is ideal for a summer lunch or sunset dinner. Pair it with sea bass stuffed with herbs, sushi, or salty tempura with a squeeze of lemon.
