We live for great bubbles, and the Pieter Ferreira 2021 Blanc de Blancs is ‘streets ahead of most local bubbly’ (Christian Eedes). This 100% Chardonnay from the much-lauded 2021 vintage spends more than 4 years on the lees and stands out for its pure, expressive aromatics and immaculate texture.
The bubbles are pinpoint and everything is dialled in, with white florals, lime cordial, river pebbles and white stone fruit adding depth. When we say we haven’t stopped talking about this since its release, we mean it.

Then there’s the acidity – electric yet seamlessly integrated, carrying the wine with elegance and verve. This is Cap Classique at its most refined.
Pieter ‘Bubbles’ Ferreira needs no introduction. As Graham Beck’s cellarmaster for 35 years, he is the undisputed maestro of Cap Classique. He retired in January and is now fully focused on his eponymous label with his wife, Ann Ferreira.
With minuscule quantities, we expect the 2021 to sell out as swiftly as the previous vintage.
Tasting Notes:
Pieter Ferreira Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut CC 2021
‘100% Chardonnay. 40% of grapes from Napier, 33% Darling and 27% Robertson. Primary fermentation in a combination of stainless tank, ceramic pots and barrel. 55 months on the lees. The nose is refined and cool-toned, showing lime, lemon and green apple, some floral perfume and a touch of flinty reduction. The palate is precise and unshowy, offering condensed fruit, vibrant acidity and a creamy, finely textured mousse, carrying through to a long, saline finish. More understated than the remarkable 2020 but still streets ahead of most local bubbly. Alc: 11.72%.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100
