Produttori’s Barbaresco: ‘Spectacular. Lustrous. Mouth-watering’

May 13, 2026 | All, International wines | 0 comments

Produttori’s Barbaresco has to be one of the best reds and ‘greatest values in Italian fine wine’. Their 2021 is mind blowing.

The energy here is tangible. This medium-bodied, 100% Nebbiolo shows violets, roses, black cherry, raspberry and spice with a nice mineral kick on the nose. The sleek palate is sumptuous and full of fine, chalky tannins, offering tension and a long, focused finish. ‘A simply spectacular, mouth-watering wine once again,’ says Greg Sherwood.

Bottle of 2021 Produttori Barbaresco wine with a quote praising its quality and a price of R675 per bottle, rated 96 points by KO.

Originally founded in 1894 as Cantine Sociali di Barbaresco with 9 farmers, and then re-established by a priest and 19 local farmers after the wars, Produttori del Barbaresco is a tale of passion, perseverance, quality and value.

2021 in the Langhe has been compared to the terrific 2016 vintage. If you remember our tastings of the 2016s with their power, precision and youthfulness, you’ll know why the 2021s are so sought-after and another great vintage for collectors. ‘The 2021 will offer a number of years of very fine drinking. It is an impressive, classy wine.’ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous.

Tasting Notes:

Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2021

‘2021 was an exceptional year in the Langhe as is clearly demonstrated by the gorgeous 2021 Barbaresco from Produttori. It boasts beautiful aromas of violet, rose, cake spice and mint that carry over to the elegant palate along with succulent red cherry, crushed raspberry and star anise. Taut, refined tannins and bright acidity keep it impeccably balanced. Made from blending Nebbiolo from different vineyard sites, this is the firm’s classic Barbaresco and is one of the greatest values in Italian fine wine.’Kerin O’Keefe, kerinokeefe.com, 96/100

‘Showing a super bright piercing aromatics of pressed red cherry, saline black berries and tart cranberry fruit complexity with fragrant undertones of polished mahogany, damp earth and a delicately herbal, floral potpourri spice melange. The palate is sleek, fulsome and absolutely brimming with tart juicy red and black Nebbiolo fruits that support an incredibly tight, fine grained tannin structure, with notes of cherry cola and pink rock candy, finishing with a sleek, sumptuous, supple sappy mineral persistence. This cooler vintage has delivered a Produttori del Barbaresco expression that surpasses possibly even some of the previous non-declared / declassified Cru Barbaresco expressions where all nine Crus were blended together into the Barbaresco normale. A simply spectacular, mouth watering wine once again.’Greg Sherwood MW, 96/100
