A red next to a roaring fire is great, but have you experienced the joy of a cracking Champagne alongside samp and mushroom risotto, Cape Malay curry, a comforting chicken stew, or warm toast and butter?

Michel Genet’s Blanc de Blancs Spirit Grand Cru is the floral, pretty, creamy, rich but focused Champagne of dreams, for only R795. From the Côte des Blancs in Champagne, this 100% Chardonnay offers breadth and minerality with fine bubbles and a velvety finish.

Bottle of Michel Genet Champagne with a quote praising its restrained style and price of R795 per bottle, with an order button.

The beauty of serving Champagne slightly warmer in winter (10–12°C) is that it unlocks deep aromatics and pairs perfectly with hearty dishes, as its bright acidity effortlessly cuts through rich foods. And there’s no struggle to keep the wines cool enough.

If you’re not sure which style of Champagne would suit you best this winter, try our Grower Champagne Starter Pack.

From a Champagne-producing family whose vinous history dates back more than a century, Michel Genet founded the business in 1965. His children now manage their 9-hectare, organically farmed estate, of which 7.6 hectares are planted with Chardonnay spread over 37 parcels! They harvest by hand and vinify each parcel separately to produce Champagnes of the highest quality.

Tasting Notes:

Michel Genet Blanc de Blancs Spirit Grand Cru NV

‘Pale gold. Sexy aromas of Anjou pear, jasmine, chalky minerals and ginger. Dry, nervy and precise, offering sappy orchard and citrus fruit flavors and a touch of buttered toast. Clings nicely on the finish, which leaves notes of orange zest and minerals behind. I like this rich Champagne’s energy.’Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 90/100
