96-point Alheit Cartology 2025

Jun 22, 2026 | All, Local wines | 0 comments

Few South African wines command the same reverence as Cartology – the wine that put Chris and Suzaan Alheit on the world map. This white is a masterclass in heritage and terroir, and the 2025 is dialled in with added focus, tension and flavour.

A blend of old-vine Chenin Blanc and Sémillon, the 2025 is sourced from rare, dry-farmed bush-vine sites across the Western Cape, capturing the best of every vineyard they work with – from the Skurfberg and Piekenierskloof to Stellenbosch. If there’s one wine you must have from the Alheits, it’s this.

Two bottles of Alheit Vineyards white wine from South Africa, labeled Cartology and Hereafter Here, with ratings and order info.

The wine’s complexity and layers of fruit, spice and florals are second to none. There’s a kind of rockpool tension in the centre keeping everything tight, and an unbelievably long finish that lingers for more than two minutes.

Also impressive is their ‘Baby Cartology’. The 95-point Hereafter Here 2025 is only getting better and offers phenomenal value given Alheit’s pedigree. ‘Precise, poised and very flavourful’, enthuses Christian Eedes, it’s the perfect introduction to their Chenins.

Tasting Notes:

Alheit Vineyards Cartology 2025

‘93% Chenin Blanc, 7% Semillon – from old vineyards across the Western Cape. Fermented and matured for 12 months in a combination of concrete eggs, foudres and old barrels. Pear, peach, citrus, hay, herbs and some flinty reduction on the nose. The palate combines pure, dense fruit with bright acidity, finishing long, savoury and gently pithy. So very tasty and possessing real presence. Alc: 13%.’ – Christian Eedes, winemag.co.za, 96/100

Alheit Vineyards Hereafter Here 2025

‘From young vineyards across the Western Cape. Matured for 12 months in old barrels. Engaging aromatics of quince, peach, flowers and herbs. Concentrated and textured, plenty of verve, the finish savoury. Precise, poised and very flavourful. Alc: 13%.’ – Christian Eedes, winemag.co.za, 95/100
