Chablis is at the top of its game. Located at the northern edge of white Burgundy, the region offers spectacular value and is continuously prized for the purity and linearity of its wines. Here, Daniel Dampt has been owned by a family of vignerons for 150 years. They’re always among our best-sellers from Chablis, and the latest set of releases are characterful, mineral Chardonnays with excellent ageability.
The village Daniel Dampt Chablis 2025 is a charming wine and a steal at R585, given the current prices of white Burgundy! From a blend of older and younger vines, classic sea spray freshness meets green apple, lemon, lily-of-the-valley, flint and white peach. It’s consistently a standout amongst Burgundy’s village wines and will drink well over the next 5 years.

‘These 60-year-old vines pulled off a delicious wine!’ says Christy Canterbury MW (in Tim Atkin’s Burgundy Report) of the Chablis Premier Cru Les Lys 2024. From north-facing slopes, this Chardonnay is a highlight of the Premier Cru range, displaying impressive depth and a fine, chalky texture.
All of Daniel Dampt’s Premier Crus are fermented and aged in stainless steel with 9 months of contact on the fine lees. They find a way to be racy, light and tactile, while simultaneously full of depth, structure, austerity and finesse – a style they’ve perfected in the region.
The Chablis Bougros Grand Cru from the 2023 vintage is a must-have for lovers of top-notch Chardonnay and is available in very limited quantities. ‘So much energy it’s like a thousand rapid snapshots of flavour and acidity all rolled into a single sip,’ notes JancisRobinson.com.

Tasting Notes:
‘A slightly riper nose includes notes of ripe and fresh apple, pear, sea breeze and a touch of wet stone. The rich, round and generously proportioned flavors possess equally good punch that also carries over to the attractively dry finale that could use better depth.’ – Allen Meadows, Burghound.com
Daniel Dampt Chablis 1er Cru Les Lys 2024
‘North-facing vines might seem like a disadvantage in such a cool, rainy year, but these 60-year-old vines pulled off a delicious wine! There is highly attractively mid-palate density, a touch of cheese rind and lees, and plenty of tangy citrus frolicking into the solid finish. This wine often drinks well young, and the 2024 is no exception! This was about to be bottled.’ – Tim Atkin MW Report, 94/100
Daniel Dampt Chablis Grand Cru Bougros 2023
‘Flowers on the nose, honeysuckle and choisya, giving the impression that this is going to be a blousy, light-touch wine. But then boom! So much texture! Lapidary. Etched chalk and ruched silk. Masses of flavour, green and gold and the whispering rustle of spices. Greengage and pressed white pepper and pear skin and angelica leaf. So much energy it’s like a thousand rapid snapshots of flavour and acidity all rolled into a single sip.’ – Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20
